THE CHURCH COVENANT
Revised by Pastor Griffin, 1992
In 1992, Pastor Griffin was led by the Holy Spirit to revise the Church Covenant. Not rewriting the principles of our faith or doctrine but revising the covenant in a language relevant to us as a people and church.
We believe we have been led by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, have been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; we do now in the presence of God and this assembly most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.
We commit, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to support and strive for the advancement of our local and the universal church of Jesus Christ, in its worship, witness and work; to celebrate its ordinances, to uphold its doctrines and disciplines, to contribute cheerfully God’s tithes and our offerings for the support of the church’s ministry, liberation of the poor and the oppressed, support of local and global missions in building the Kingdom of God here on Earth as it is in Heaven.
We also commit, to exercise Christian compassion and care over each other as brothers and sisters in Christ, to faithfully admonish and encourage each other as occasion may require; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to be patient and forgiving and always ready for reconciliation; to maintain in all things the spirit of peace and bond of unity with the love of Jesus Christ.
We also commit, to pursue growth in grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; to maintain family and personal devotions; to educate our children in the Christian faith for the service of Christ, to seek the salvation and liberation of family and friends; to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with our God.
We covenant in all conditions, to strive even until death to live faithfully for the Glory of Him who sent us forth to be His witnesses, the Salt of the Earth and the Light of the World. And may the God of peace who brought again from the dead, our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the Blood of the Everlasting Covenant, make us perfect in every good work to do His will, working us in that which is well and pleasing in His sight through Jesus Christ - To Whom be the Glory for ever and ever. Amen.
